Sad news about Charles Hughes, TSOrd
Hello. First I would like to say thankyou to madppiper for fixing my account. Now then, I've lurked now and then at this site for quite a while. Recently, I came back and saw the article "A history of Trespassing." It made me curious as to what happened to Charles. So, without telling anyone, I went about searching for a long time for any sign of him I could find on the internet. During that search, by luck alone, I came into contact with his son. This is the sad news that he had to share with me:
"He died October 4, 2001 while attempting to help the victim of a hit and run by a drunk driver on the side of the highway when he was hit by another driver who was talking on his cell phone and speeding. His family (myself, my sister, and my mother) are now living in Utah with the court case settled and trying to get along happily.
"Also my mother still gets very very emotional if it is brought up so dont look for more contact information on us although if they feel some strong need to contact us they can use this e-mail address," (email address he gave me - I will only post it if someone really needs it) "no promise I'll respond this is my "junk" e-amil account you were lucky I happened to check it."
I am sorry to be the bringer of sad news, but at least, now, everyone will know what happened to TSOrd, very shortly after his final post, unfortionately.

If this is true (I sure hope you wouldn't make something like this up) it is a real tragedy. Obviously people believed maybe something as serious as what you said happened, but it was never something we really allowed ourselves to accept. Chronologically it seems to make sense, however, since his final post at the Tres Secrets forum was in October., perhaps even on the very same day.
If nothing more, it would be nice to let the person know that there is a huge amount of people here who looked up to Charles as a leader and as inspiration.
I happen to be the author of the History of Trespasser article and I'm glad what I said proved of use to locating Mr. Hughes finally.
Once again, I'm assuming you have enough respect for other human beings not to make something like this up.

Even though TSOrd "disappeared" from the Trespasser community five months before I even joined, I always felt a certain affinity toward him. Maybe that's from having read so many posts where others talked about him, his love of Trespasser and the contributions he made to this community.
Until we hear something to the contrary, I can't help but to feel binto1985's post has the ring of truth to it. It would certainly explain a lot. I can't imagine what binto1985 could possibly gain from posting it otherwise.
binto1985, as sad as this news is, I appreciate you sharing it with us.

Everything that I have told you is from the emails that I had received. So I am telling the truth. As for his son, while there is always the possiblility of fraud on the internet, I have no reason to believe that the person I talked to is lying. The last post from TSOrd that I can find in a quick search is 10/1/01 so yes, just days before the sad event. The date of October 4th was given to me without me mentioning any dates of disappearance to him. I can see that you care, so feel free to contact Charles's son at (email has been removed) if you feel a strong need to, but remember his "no promise of response" to that account.
correction: I found one later post by TSOrd on 10/1/01, which is still in line with the information.
edit: email has been removed from my post. I assume that Dan will remove it from his quote of me as well.

If true, and I assume that it is, that's very sad news. Most of us just assumed that he had gotten busy with real life and disappeared. I'm certain that all of us here would have preferred the latter. Beyond exchanging a few emails and posts with Tsord, I never got the chance to get to know him on a personal level, though others such as Andres and Penguin had and I believe that there was a personal friendship and respect between them.
Just terrible news. My condolences to his surviving family, abeit non-forwarding. I don't think it'd be appropriate to send belated messages to the family, I don't believe in being intrusive with regards to personal matters.

Before anyone tears off an email to TSOrd's son, I think it would be appropriate if restraint is shown, and we allow the senior members of TresCom to decide what would be the best course. I further suggest it might be appropriate for us to let the seniors craft an email of sympathy that all of us could sign that would be sent from the community as a whole.binto1985 wrote: I can see that you care, so feel free to contact Charles's son at (email removed) if you feel a strong need to, but remember his "no promise of response" to that account.

I agree with Dan, here - assuming it is right to send anything at all, it should be written by one person, sent in one organized e-mail. Further communication should only continue at the request of Mr. Hughes family.

Well at this point I wouldn't mind very much if binto or his source said they lied, and that TSOrd was just on an extended vacation from Trespasser.

I wasn't thinking that it would be in mine as well so whoever removed it from my post, thanks.binto1985 wrote:edit: email has been removed from my post. I assume that Dan will remove it from his quote of me as well.

I assume this is true, because I don't believe anybody would play such a sick joke on us.
This is very sad. Ironicly enough, I considered his death to be a possibility in a topic at the old forum: http://diehard.ath.cx/~runbots/phpbbmod ... 57&forum=7
I just wish that instead he had left us and went on to do other things. My condolences to his family.
Rest in peace Charles, we have been and always will miss you
Edit:
@binto1985:
Though sad, thank you for sharing this information with us.

What terrible news. I think some kind of community response would be nice but as others have said, it should be in a restrained way.
How sad, I always feared something like this might have happened - TSOrd was a lovely fellow, my condolences to the family, however belated.
A sad day for the community.
