--------------------------
For some reason, your friend went to the Isla Sorna (don't know why yet) and no one's heard from him, and you want to find him really bad so you go there to try and find him in a helicopter piloted by someone you paid a lot to. But it crashes when you're attacked by a LW Pteranodon, and when you wake up, the copter is in ruins and the pilot is dead. There are abandoned InGen facilities all over the island, and one will be near by where you get your first weapon(s). So you go around the island trying to find him, and, some things happen. Maybe you find something that belonged to him, or something, so you keep searching. Eventually you find the Embryonics Administration. Inside you see stuff that we saw in JP///, plus a lot more of it. So you keep going, finding stuff like weapons and ammo maybe, and maybe papers with information about the park we didn't know about, but eventually you'll find these people in a lab who are working there in secret. They threaten you at first cause they think you've come to catch them, but you have a weapon and convince them that all you're trying to do now is find your friend and get off the island alive. So he tells you that your friend probably went to the worker village, but that it's a long way from where you are unless you go through the fenced paddock nearby. At this point a raptor or something comes in and starts attacking the guys there, but main guy survives (though the player doesn't know it). Anyway you go outside and run in the direction he indicated. You come to a tall fence that looks like the one we saw in JP///... You open a gate to this fence and go inside. So after you're going across this paddock for a little while, running into some dinos, you come across...........the SPINO!!! (if the player trys to go back out the fence, they'll find it is now locked) Now you know why the guy wanted you to go inside here. Actually he is the one who put the Spino in here, but the player can only guess that. So you shouldn't be able to kill Spino at this point in the game, so maybe the point is to stop him from pursuing you or at least delay him and get to the other side of the paddock alive. There will be a place called the Fence Operations Control Center around this spot, which is abandoned, and you open the other gate from here. So once you leave, you make for the village (maybe there is a sign or something) which isn't that far. Again there are lots of small InGen facilities and old vehicles laying around the place, though not everywhere. Also to get to the village, you'll have to go through the 'long grass' like in TLW with the raptors. So when you get to the worker village, you look around for your friend. It will be a big place, modeled after the movie concept art and models instead of what was actually in the movie (how it would have been if the original ending were kept), so this may take awhile. Finally, you find him in a fairly secret out-of-the-way spot in a building -- dead. But on looking at him (mostly skeletal), it doesn't look like he was killed by a dinosaur. You leave the building quickly, and find the guy from the Embryonics Administration. He says he thought for sure you would be killed by the Spino, and that he can't let you get off the island and tell anyone what you saw here. He's about to kill you when you both hear a loud noise and the Spino comes breaking through the decayed fence around the village, and eats this guy. So you have to run for it, and try to kill him somehow (not really sure how yet). Maybe there was a special weapon you needed in a building, like the big Operations building at the end or somewhere. Also at some point soon you have to get to the communications center and radio the mainland to send help... we'll see how that works out. Maybe a helicopter can come, or a boat can go to a spot on the island that you have to get to. Once you get there, the game ends.

So that was the first concept, written several weeks ago. I also drew up a map that correlated directly to that plot, which you can see as the first one in the Island Maps thread. Chris, Tom, and I have been hacking away at the plot lines and concepts, Chris helping to refine to narritive details and Tom discussing alternatives to in-game contact with other humans, which at first we rejected but then realized could be a good idea. Just a couple days ago, after some intense discussion, I drafted up a new plot for the game, this time focusing on what happens before the game, rather than what happens during it (that has yet to be discussed specifically). This is also due to a realization I had about what people want in a good Tres level: being able to go anywhere you want, having different ways to get off the island, etc. I have managed to remove these Tres levels from the mostly linear type of gameplay that Tres was based around, so that you get to go lots of different places and each time you play could be completely different. So, kinda like Tres actually, there is less story during the game and way more revealing of the past. That is really what Tres was like, but again now it's not so linear. Anyway here is the most recent plot outline, which is quite a bit more detailed:
--------------------------
After Hurricane Clarissa devastated the facilities on Site B, and the incident on Isla Nublar had all but ruined the company, InGen ordered the evacuation of all personnel from Isla Sorna, and the destruction of the facilities and dinosaurs on Isla Nublar. Sighting that costs would be too high to clean up the wreckage on Isla Sorna, considering that the company would soon be facing bankruppcy, InGen only took a handful of valuable supplies from the facilies, let the young dinosaurs loose on the island to fend for themselves, and left.
Back when the facilities on Isla Nublar were not even ready, a rogue faction of InGen was already growing, one which had great dissent for John Hammond, InGen's CEO, who would only allow the cloning and display in the park of dinosaurs which he approved of. Located mainly in the Embryonics Adiministration, these people found ways to hide their activities from Richard Jackson, the head of operations on Site B, and Hammond never found out about their illegal activities there. The first dino they began to breed in secret was the Spinosaurus. The first several attempts failed to produce a surviving specimen, but on the fourth they successfully created a baby Spino. Also, for better results and in defiance of Hammond's directions to breed only female dinosaurs, they decided to engineer it as a male. They hid him in a secret basement room where no one would see him. Also this Spino's genes were not normal; they were changed to enhance his aggresiveness and overall muscular strength.
When Hurricane Clarissa passed, and the order was given to evacuate, most members of this group stayed behind in secret, also stowing away valuable supplies at the EA that InGen would have brought back. Once everyone had cleared, they came out to set up secret operations and continue breeding dinos. After hearing of the incident on Isla Nublar, word had gotten out that at least one agent from an unknown competing company had sabotaged the power grid, causing the incident. They found out it was Denis Nedry, one of the lead programmers for Jurassic Park, so they sent a few people out when InGen evacuated to find out about this company. They discovered its name was BioSyn, and Nedry had been occompanied by another agent whom he had been due to rendezvous with on the boat at the East Dock on the night of the incident, where he never turned up. These people they sent were able to make contact with BioSyn, and once they established eachother's motives, agreed that they would both benefit from the covert operations now being continued on Site B. Thus a strong business connection formed.
When the brother of a girl named Tasha didn't return once the islands were evacuated (she was not told he worked with dinosaurs), she demanded that a search be launched to find out why he hadn't come back and to try and find him. InGen officials told her they didn't know why and she should except the fact that he might not come back. They did not return any more of her phonecalls, and she was furious. She had no idea that he had stayed behind because he was a member of the rogue faction.
When John Hammond was voted out as CEO of InGen, he was replaced by his nephew, Peter Ludlow, who took an expedition to Site B in order to bring back dinosaurs, so that they could be used in an amusement park in San Diego that his unlce hadn't completed. Ian Malcom and others went at the same time to study the dinosaurs in their own environment, but then took it on themselves to sabotage the efforts of Ludlow's team from InGen. Many people on the expedition were killed, but a T-Rex was brought back to the mainland. On the boat, velociraptors stowed away, killing the crew, so that when the boat arrived at the dock, the Rex got loose and wreaked havoc on the city. Ian Malcom and Sarah Harding were able to bring the Rex back to the boat and it was taken back to Site B. This incident revealed the current existance of dinosaurs, and the existance of a dinosaur island, after which Alan Grant wrote a book which included descriptions of some of his experiences on Isla Nublar.
The rogue faction of InGen (now offically affiliated with BioSyn) had been aware of the others' presence on the island and kept low during that time, though luckily for them the teams never approached the Embryonics Administration or the fenced-in area where they kept their more dangerous creations, designated as the Hazardous Species Paddock, which had been made from fencing left over from the original paddocks on Site B which held the adult dinosaurs while the park wasn't ready. After this it was agreed stronger precautions should be taken to ensure no on from InGen (or anywhere else) would find out about their activities.
Once Tasha found out that InGen had been making dinosaurs on the island, she again became furious that no efforts had been taken to find her brother, even when they went back. She also heard on the news that InGen's CEO had been voted out before this happened (and was now back in control of the company), and after an interview with him, she realized he was likely the kind of person who would listen to her request. She was able to get a hold of Hammond's phone number from the news network, and called him up to tell him about her brother. Not that surprising to her, Hammond had never heard of any workers being left behind on Isla Sorna, and agreed to have a company helicopter bring her and two other trained men to Site B to find out what happened to him.
The rogue workers at the Ebryonics Administration continue to breed dinosaurs for BioSyn, which is asking for the most aggresive and frightening dinosaurs they can come up with. They enhance all of these dinosaurs' strength, aggresiveness, and in some cases even size. They've managed to breed a new horrible form of pterosaur that has many carniverous teeth inside the beak, and many new predators have been bred. The operation seems to be going well, but one of their experiments gets out of hand. A new enhancement is being developed, under increasing pressure from BioSyn, that enhances the growth rate of the hatched dinosaurs, so they can reach maturity faster. They deside to test it on what was believed to be a velociraptor embryo. Several failed attempts are made to impliment this enchancement, but finally they create a successful specimen, which grows even faster than they had predicted, eating vast quantities of food. They move him into their largest cage at the Administration as he continues to grow. Meanwhile a number of other successful specimens are hatched. This first one astonishes them all one day by beginning to grow beyond the natural size of a velociraptor. Some think it is a side-effect of the enhancement, but one of the paleontological scientists realizes it is probably a species that was just discovered, called Megaraptor namunhuaiquii, which was estimated to be 9 meters long. Realizing how big it will get, they immediately try to secure the raptor for shipment to the Hazardous Species Paddock, but in doing so it breaks free of its restraints and kills the people who are trying to move him. The megaraptor then breaks the cages of the other dinosaurs there, including the other megaraptors, and they all start to run loose around the compound, killing any and everyone they meet. Eventually the first megaraptor reaches the main research lab and kills their leader, Andre Halvorson (the person who started the rogue faction). Hearing the screaming of the victims of the loose raptors and other dinos, many workers flea from the compound into the forest. Daniel Carter, Tasha's brother, grabs his rifel instead and tries to fend off a smaller megaraptor that attacks him. Before he fires the shot that kills the raptor, it manages to slice him in the stomach, and he starts to bleed profusely. He hides and locks himself in a room, where he manages to escape the rest of the megaraptors as they move through the complex. For whomever might find him there, wondering what happened, he gets a piece of paper out and uses his last strength to write down a description of what happened. Then he dies.
Tasha finally approaches Isla Sorna in the InGen helicopter, accompanied by the other two men and the pilot. It is cloudy and very foggy so they can't see the island until they get close. The pilot says that he saw something move by but couldn't tell what it was. Then Tasha remembers that there are dinosaurs on the island, and remembers the winged dinosaurs that she saw in books as a kid. Suddenly the helicopter jolts violently to the left, and the pilot tries to regain control. One of the two men tells the pilot to land on the island immediately, but just then the helicopter takes another violent jolt to the right, and Tasha is knocked unconsious.
<switching to player view>
When you wake up, you are lying on the ground next to the wreckage of the InGen helicopter. When you look inside, you see the two trained men and the pilot, or what is left of them, dead and burned. You must have been flung out before it crashed. Burried in the wreckage is a weapon, and if you look near by you will also find a couple other weapons, but not too much. You are surrounded by rainforest and jungle, so you set off on your own to try and find some trace of your brother, realizing you've lost your way to get off the island and the protection you were expecting to have.
The rest is up to you.
--------------------------
So that's the plot as of now. Elements of during-game plot are still being discussed. As Chris, Tom, and I really like how this version sounds, the above material is not likely to change, however gameplay has yet to be decided (some things from the original idea are still valid), and there is always room to expand on what we have. Use this thread to discuss the plot and post new ideas you have for it. You can even make something in a story-telling style, that's cool.
