Re: Drac Sketchin'
Not necessarily "out of nowhere", it could be a volcanic eruption or a meteor shower... both somewhat dinosaur-related.

Re: Drac Sketchin'
Hmmmm Oh, here's that thread I made a while back. Hey all - I have just recently begun to sketch again. Oddly enough, I found that after I left Jurassic behind, as I thought for-good, I had no interest in sketching, when I stopped to consider the possible activity. That saddened me. Now that I have returned, the desire to sketch is back, and for whatever reason only wants to do Jurassic things. So, that's what I'm doing! Here is the cover of my new sketchbook, which I drew a full detail of Tres-Sorna onto:
While at a group gathering across the river here, I drew this pen-only image of a new Jurassic Park vehicle that came to mind. Harpoon Harrison and Trex Turner, from the Dino Trackers line of Kenner toys, are riding a made-up grey-and-red speed boat with seat-extensions like the Humvee from TLW, and toy-like capture equipment. They are tracking a Plesiosaurus.
This one was inspired by accidental ink spattering. It seemed most like blood to me, so I turned it into a top-down view of the recent killing of a scientist by a Velociraptor, in homage to the Megaraptor Escape plotline from JPDS1.\
In the evening yesterday, I decided I wanted to draw Eric Kirby from JP///, then somehow got around to making it a representation of TheIdiot. Behind him are the Trespasser things from his past, while before him are his current projects.
That's all for now! More over time.

Now these are pretty cool. Thanks for sharing them.

Re: Drac Sketchin'
I like the cover! Reminds me a lot of the Isla Sorna map, found in the novel. Am I the only one who finds a lot of fun in just drawing simple mountains like that?
The speedboat reminds me of a combination of that crashed CP-23 boat from the JP ride and the hunter vehicle, as you said. Although it's toy inspired, it actually seems like a plausible design you might have seen in TLW, or maybe in wrecked form at the marina in JP3.
I knew the third one was a JPDS reference as soon as I saw the yellowish Raptor! You know you've achieved something notable when the reference is that easy to pick up on. Still makes me wish we'd at least seen a completed JPDS1, with the EA and all.
As for the final one...honestly, wow...I'm really flattered. That's the first time anyone's made anything like that for me. At the same time, it's kind of sad, looking it over...the fancy trees, the HD crates, but really that Isla Nublar sign with "TI" on it is what hits home for me. I'm suddenly impacted by this strange feeling like I've taken a step into a new phase of my life looking at that forlorn signpost. It's rather sad, honestly, like a good friend gone forever. When you spend 11 or 12 years of your life working on something like that, it really feels like a part of you, like a massive personal achievement, even if it was only meant to be played by a few guys here on the internet.
I have to say, Draco - thanks for making this, I really appreciate it. That really made my day (well, made my night, since it's after midnight here).
Oh, and I hope the radio in the bottom-right is playing something good...
I ever pick up a sketchbook again, I'll have to return the favour.

Re: Drac Sketchin'
Glad you guys like the drawings : ) It seems they are cooler than I realized. Indeed, I forget to mention the JP ride inspiration for the boat; that thing is pretty memorable, I guess I'm not all sure who takes notice of it. And, I'm glad your drawing made such an impression. You know, you should consider drawing Trespasser terrain sometime, it is fairly fun.

Ahh, I'm not a huge fan of drawing landscapes, especially after they made me spend two months drawing three or four of those a week in college...but maybe I'll make an exception for Trespasser, even though I never got any good at it.Draconisaurus wrote:You know, you should consider drawing Trespasser terrain sometime, it is fairly fun.

Re: Drac Sketchin'
Alright folks, here is my next set of illustrations...
This one is basically concept art for a level I'll never make. JPAC stands for "Jurassic Park Animal Control" and was created for the Universal Islands of Adventure setting, and intended to be represented in JPDS levels years ago. I see them as a faction within the Jurassic Reality Nexus, which has some claim to itself in the minds of the fandom and deserves our occasional attention and creative assistance. The image was also partially intended to practice new modes of illustrating Trespasser landscapes, such as with the inclusion of colored pencil.
This one came to me while I was drunk. I am currently reading King Kong -related media and somehow here spun it together with the infamous Jurassic Park scene...
This one is my first modern attempt to create a (brief) series of comic panels. I imagine this could be from an alternate reality with daily or weekly Jurassic Park strips in the funny papers.
Finally, a special creation of mine. Some may recognize reference to the fabled blue corridore Raptor concept art from TLW. I took that idea, and brought in Arby from TLW novel. And, the man helping him out is Elliot Wu, a character revealed earlier this year to be only in an early, unpublished draft of Crichton's book. Meanwhile someone is breaking down the spacetime barriers...

Re: Drac Sketchin'
Your first image there with the JPAC outpost really looks Trespasser-ish. Also I have to say that your art is definitely looking better and better with every new drawing...I really like your palm leaves.
The one with Carl Denham is pretty funny, but the one with Hammond is the one that got me. The expressions on Hammond's face are hilarious.
And I can't help but think the third one looks a lot like JPDS as well...could be concept art for some part of the EA complex. I can picture one of the megaraptors smashing through a wall made of physical chunks of concrete.

I'd intended to include "Head of JPAC" as the official title of the office that Robert Muldoon held on Isla Nublar in RTJP. They'd have had a small office in the back of the VC, and I was going to recreate the CP-25 boat from the JP ride as well for the North Dock. I still think the JP ride did a really good job of fitting in with the film, especially in style. This one is basically concept art for a level I'll never make. Re: Drac Sketchin'
Thanks guys! Glad to hear the thoughts...
Ah Tatu, you know a release of some sort of TresCom comic thing sounds fun. I dunno, that might work out. I'm not sure how much my inner artist will feel like being tied to regularity with comic-creation. More likely the comics which end up being made, can be compiled at random intervals and presented as a news post. 8 )

Re: Drac Sketchin'
Alright, I have three new sketches to share with you...
"Reflective Dimetro"
This image shows a lone Dimetrodon, residing as he does in the Permian, gazing at himself into the water.
"Environ Dichotomy"
Looking for inspiration while sitting outside, I suddenly had thought to juxtapose two pylon-containing Trespasser environments, two missing regions within Isla Sorna. This came out.
"Fear the Door"
And, most recently, I glanced on the thought to illustrate a Trespasser physics CMagnet glitch, and realized this image.
