Couldn't it have been a "back road"? I mean if it was blocked by debris and such from some sort of rockslide, we had to go the "long way", and the long way would mean going through Isla Sorna infrastructure, namely the Geothermal Plant, The Port, and the Lab. It seems reasonable to assume from there, there would be a way to get up to Mount Watson, but the Mayan Ruins do make this problematic. Not impossible however.Draconisaurus wrote:Sooo.. machf describes it well. The road next to the dam was meant to continue towards and up Mt. Watson, meeting up with the section of road seen in AS2. I am pretty sure the tram from the walkthrough follows this route.
The switchback which the player uses to get up Mt. Watson is, IMO, not an InGen one. Not quite sure why there are occasional InGen-left boards and materials left around. I would say some of them may even have just fallen from the mountain above. At the end of the day the main explanation is probably that the devs needed to put in material for the player to interact with on the way up.

Re: MinePass
Pretty sure the road from Dam up Mt. Watson was the main route. Trucks and so on would not be able to go the other way, because of how the other road looks. Even tho I'm pretty sure that road was never implemented in the game itself.

Re: MinePass
My personal belief in regards to the roads up Mount Watson are that originally there was meant to be a road making its way up the southern face of the mountain, likely a switchback road similar to the one on the eastern face, which was the InGen-designed road from the Town to the Summit. The road that you ascend in AS2 before meeting up with the paved one which just kind of ends seems to be some kind of goat-path or perhaps a Mayan trail rather than something InGen made. It seems the AS2 valley wasn't really part of the main island network at all.
It simply doesn't make sense that the second road you get to (the paved one) ends before reaching the summit. How could they have gotten that equipment all the way up there on that rough trail? They would also have had to transport that stuff all the way around the island, through AS1 and AS2, which is completely illogical and likely impossible, considering the geography. There must have at one point been a road that met up with the PV road (as seen on the map) and made its way up to the other road. They likely removed both of these roads at some point in production, possibly to save polygons or to prevent the player from going up to the Summit from IT/PL/PV.

Re: MinePass
I remember something being said about this in the 97 walkthrough, so I dusted the old thing off and went to the bridge between The Town and Plains. Turns out there was.
Which is basically what's being described here
Now this could mean something else entirely, but I think the working logic here is that there were two roads, another towards Mt. Watson directly and probably to the infrastructure as well somehow, maybe directly. It's hard to tell with the open language the 97 walkthrough uses. But whatever the case, it describes a road that's not passable, forcing Anne to take an alternative route.Once outside the town, the player finds herself on the North Road, which leads through to the laboratory facilities eventually. This road ascends a steep ridge almost immediately, but whatever cut-rate engineer Hammond hired to build this road managed instead to create a convenient run-off sluice for the rainy season. What used to be a nice, gently-sloped road has washed out down its entire length, becoming a series of ledges connected by streambeds, completely unclimbable. (alternate solution: the road has a bridge to allow passage up a cliff, but the bridge is wrecked).
Anne will have to find some other way to get to the plains, so she sets out in the only direction available: east towards the sea.

Re: MinePass
The description in your walkthrough quote refers to the washed out point which can be found in retail IT; it prevents you from getting to the PV gate without ascending the dam stairs. The extension of the road past the PV gate seems to be missing.

Re: MinePass
That's definitely what it's meant to be. When it says she goes "east toward the sea", she would be going between the hill on the east side of the town and the eastern side of the Dam ridge. There is a section of terrain raised up there which is clearly unnatural, which judging by what machf posted was meant to be the entrance to the plains.Draconisaurus wrote:The description in your walkthrough quote refers to the washed out point which can be found in retail IT; it prevents you from getting to the PV gate without ascending the dam stairs. Just added this last night, Dr wu's small TV and vanishing microwave
(for some reason it's removed in build 117)

Re: MinePass
Haha nice. Yes that micro issss one of the main reasons b117 is not to be played under any circumstances...

Geez, Dr Wu is some kind of cereal-killer, from the looks of it.Just added this last night, Dr wu's small TV and vanishing microwave(for some reason it's removed in build 117)

Would it be possible to re-texture those head objects with proper appliances so it doesn't look so...macabre? There are plenty of texture files you could rip right out of Trespasser to do this.
Re: MinePass
No it wouldn't be possible for several reasons, first this is Xbox one Minecraft and we only have official texture packs and since mods are a mess retexturing a single block/item would cause havok with other areas that use that same block.TheIdiot wrote: Would it be possible to re-texture those head objects with proper appliances so it doesn't look so...macabre? Example-what do you get when you place the grey skull on the ground with the front facing away from sight?

Re: MinePass
Ah the infamous concept art radio tower... Put it in two of my mods. Where, might I ask, is this location relative to others on the island?

Re: MinePass
Well it's location is a little difficult to answer but if you look up in the right corner you can see a fence with barbe wire and in the back is the dam. If I remember correctly the tower is roughly between the two north road washouts (one in my map, I cut the first one for several reasons).Draconisaurus wrote:Ah the infamous concept art radio tower... Re: MinePass
Ah yes I recall that fence mentioned in the walkthrough. Nice.
Are there two roads in PL? I only remember one.. will have to look later.

Re: MinePass
Well there's the North road. As for the other, I added a dirt road that goes to the dam.Draconisaurus wrote:Are there two roads in PL? I only remember one.. will have to look later.
Edit. Oh I see, no I was referring to the two spots where the road is impassible in the retail section. The walkthrough only mentioned one and I wanted the North road to run longer on the plains ground, in Hammonds script he mentioned on the day they sealed the town they drove through a light rain with an armored escort and how no one felt safe on the plains. There's another line that states how dangerous the plains was, can't remember exactly what it was-something about being stranded and not surviving.
As you'll see when I get more of the plains polished I took MASSIVE creative liberties. At the time there wasn't any real information about the level.
