Knowing C++ and Java might help you in writing scripts for the programs, but otherwise, it's a different thing, they are 3D modeling/rendering software, not programming languages.

Originally, they were made by different companies, but I believe recently Autodesk bought Maya. Don't know if they have since then somehow merged capabilities of each program into the other or not.
