Nothing fancy, though I was wonderin' if by using the exported terrain mesh one could create a cave by replacing parts of the terrain with its meshed copy. (seamed near flawlessly)

Looks great.
I thought about it once, but never really tried.
I think that if you also model a small part of the terrain surrounding it, but putting it slightly lower, you can also get rid of the difference in brighness on the areas where the model intersects with the terrain.

That wat the vertex normals of the mesh, which take care of the lighting, will match up with the ones on the terrain geometry.

Yea, but you're the expert at this stuff, I was just sorta messin' around.
Originally, I was thinking how cool it'd be to use mesh to create a cave nearby our b29 crashsite, sorta build a story around how one of the pilots survived and lived out of the cave for the remainder of his life, filling with all sorts of ww2 era stuff, diary, survival stuff, et cetera, but the job seemed too involved (not to mention, importing just the part of mesh you desire isn't so easy) and we already have enough unfinished business to tend to.
I'll probably add the cave into the testzone though, put the idea out there --
