What are the options for inserting texture larger than 256x256? (512x512, 1024x1024)

The only way to have textures higher than 256x256 is to use the CE patch. It has a function to override textures and support higher resolution.

Check out the "LevelAuthorReadme.txt" file and go to "Level (SWP) Texture Overrides for Hardware Rendering" to see how it can be used. Terrain textures can not be replaced however.

"Well, as long as you're under there, you can check the breakers," Thorne said. ... "There's a box right behind the front bumper. Over on the left."
"I see it." [said Sarah]
...
"The box is in backward. Flip all the switches the other way. Are you dry?"
"No, Doc. I'm soaking wet, lying in the damn mud."
