The Mysterious HB Keycard...

Post by Draconisaurus »

...Shady texture, multi-vertex 3D model... Jovial unused asset.

Sooo what exactly was the grey keycard found in TestScene, with a hand-marked inscription reading "HB", meant for? What did these letters abbreviate? It stands as one of the unsolved mysteries of Trespasser.

Candidates for possible meaning:

"Hammond Bungalow"
"Hammond Bitch"
"Henry Bungalow"
"Harbor Building"
"Hangover's (a) Bitch"
"Happy Beach"
"Historical Bones"
"Harold Brinewood"
"Helicopter Bird"

Any other suggestions?...

I believe the other keycards like this found in the early Town Max Scene could help with this. It includes the HB one:

PtkeycardTM00-00
PtkeycardHB00-00
PtkeycardSG00-00
Ptkeycard1Mn00-00
PtkeycardHS00-00"
PtkeycardHG00-00
Active project: Trespasser: Isla Sorna
Status:
BE-PH1: Released
PH2-IT: Pre-released
PL-SUM: In production

"...there used to be more benches, but InGen's workers removed them during the evacuation in the name of framerate."

! Fascinating, I didn't know about the others... Would be relatively simply to make the marker labels. I wonder whether they were all grey?

TM
~Terminus Monorail
HB
~(see above)
SG
~Supply Grocery
1MN
~One Man Night
HS
~High School
HG
~Henry Garage

These abbreviations seem quite mysterious and were definitely made so in order to make it a puzzle of some difficulty...

Considering all the developer Easter eggs hidden in the game I just though that HB was just another one of those. Not sure about the proposed names, are they found in any other level?

The "H" ones probably refer to Hammond, that would make sense.

Sadly not. Only for the one found in TestScene. The other ones uses the same textures for the back and sides however.

It's obvious the cards were dropped because of both their size and the fact that the team was approaching the deadline by the time IT was actually added to the game. As a result, they opted out for smaller and fewer key cards with colors to allow the player to keep track of them better. If you've picked up the one in the test scene, it's massive and would probably have been cumbersome for anne to carry unless she stowed it away. (which wasn't implemented into the game properly until much later anyway)

I think the same.
Also, the IT Max Scene(s) contain another set of keycards, used for a computer like thing. So it is possible they wanted to try different solutions.

Those chip things. I'd like to make use of them sometime. Any clues what their receptacles looked like?
