Old fan levels that got lost. Backups anyone?

Browsing through the levels and design section (this one :)) of the forum, I noticed that there were quite a few people who demoed what they worked on, but their projects never made it to the level downloads section. Most of the files were uploaded to file hosters that are now either out of business or deleted the files due to inactivity or age.

What I hope for is that someone archived most or all of those "underdogs" so they don't get lost in the data nirvana. Writing a PM to the original authors might also help in a case or two. But an existing collection would be easier. I can collect a few threads with defunct links to build a list of the missing files.

This is the list of levels with broken download links, together with the related forum post:
Levels recovered so far:

I might have a few, I have a rather large archive of custom levels, but first I would need to know which are missing before I upload anything...

Yes, I have lots too and at one point I had begun to upload them, but then I had ery bad problems with my Internet connection that lasted for several months until I switched ISP. And by then I had lost momentum (and lost track of which ones I had already uploaded).

Right now I'm reminded of these ones:
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=9075&p=104228#p104228

I never got them, I was out of space at the time (and out of time) and didn't download them...

Roger that. I'll see if I can prepare a list using linkcheck.

So many topics about how to use the editing tools, lost vertexes unwelding on model import, .swp files too small, corrupted level files :cartman:. It must have required a lot of dedication to create mods for Trespasser, lol!

Ok, I've updated the first post with the list of dead links. They are seriously more than I expected, but then again there are slightly above 100 levels in total and the better part of them are still accessible. I wonder if some of those missing levels are still on your disks.

P.S.:

The links are active again! Just head over there and download those JPDS files.

My folder with levels is 2.4 GiB now. It's probably within the limits for one of those free folder sharing services.

Jetblack's The Crash: http://www.mediafire.com/?81yshc4j04czzib

General Kenobi's Causeway: http://www.mediafire.com/download/liovp ... useway.zip

Tresfan101's Helipad: http://www.mediafire.com/?olvl9spzjt072jg

That's all I have, unfortunately (Haven't been on TresCom for that long). But I'm definitely interested now in getting my virtual hands on those other levels.

Excellent list! We are currently working on some changes to the website, which will make it easier for us to update the page! I will probably include this in an update right thereafter! :)

A few ones can be found here: http://www.fileplanet.com/109752/0/0/0/1/section/Maps
And Trophy room: http://www.fileplanet.com/111307/0/0/0/1/section/Other

(only way to access fileplanet links for Trespasser by these links)

Additional mirrors are always good. When you say "those other levels", does that include the ones I was able to find in the depths of the forums, but you don't have yet ? E.g. do you already have Giant Forest or Beauty and Horror ?

@madpiper: Content management software, eh ? Do you want to add the list of missing levels to trescom or update the levels list with the ones we recover ? It isn't clear from your post.

@tatu: I hoped there was some kind of fileplanet archive. Do you still have your own mapping experiments by the way ? Hunter's Death sounds thrilling. 8)

Yes, I've already uploaded them to the TresCom server (after some initial troubles which fortunately were solved), but haven't added the links to the downloads section yet... something I ate at lunch yesterday made me sick, that's why you just see me around right now (I have turned my computer on a few minutes ago).

I have to go through muy file archives too...

Oh, and BTW, I've got an idea for a small map which I'm intending to finish in time for either TresCom's 11th anniversary or Trespasser's 15th... I won't add anything else.

I do, but I don't have all my Trespasser discs atm. I sent them to a friend a few years back, but I probably have some of those missing levels on them too. :)

No, the other levels in your list, because I haven't played them yet. :)
