TresEd Terrain Edit Mode Demonstration

I figured it was time I finally recorded a video of my terrain editing methods. Actually Melber asked in the TresCom Discord, about how to edit terrain, and I realized that FRAPS can pick up TresEd video without the need for post-production etc. Anyway. It surprises me sometimes how difficult others find terrain editing to learn; I get the impression that most simply give up before they get have a chance of getting better. At any rate, I've learned to make various kinds of terrain inside the editor quite quickly, and you can too... See the video below. As a note, various buttons on the terrain-edit window are pressed off-screen during the video. These include all four top buttons, the, the Set Height button, and then Radius & Feather (which can't be adjusted if Vert or Quad is on). I do NOT use the Divide or Merge buttons; use Ctrl+V to divide terrain quads, and right-click or right-click-drag to combine them. The checkboxes beneath all this are for visual assistance to the person editing terrain.

Hmm here is the raw link:

You mean that you can watch it but the embed doesn't work, or? It has music from TLW Original Soundtrack. Possibly for this is the reason. I couldn't embed my crazy b55 Anne video due to a copyright claim on the classical music in the background.

Yep. The embedded clip refuses to play and displays a copyright notice telling me to go to YouTube instead.

I don't know, but it plays for me as of now, though it'd be more helpful to newbies if you could see the terrain editing window. I
will say though, you're pretty quick at terrain editing, Drac.

Heheh thanks Rebel. I am hoping that, seeing the process visually and what is possible with the tool, they'll be able to figure out how to do it themselves.

I'm glad for this demonstration, hopefully it helps people make slightly more natural terrain.
One big detail that I don't think anyone's really delved into much over the course of Tres history is the finer detail of terrain - little bumps and ridges in slopes, making sure all terrain edges are rounded off, small divets in the ground and such. I've tried a bit of it with Cloning Facility and it really makes a difference, but it is very time-consuming. Maybe you could try some if it yourself and create a demonstration of that sort of thing?

nHmmm I feel like the bit in the above video around the super-detailed interior area had that int it.. Could you be more specific?

I must admit it's useful, all the important elements are there and you can see what it does. It definitely brought me more than my own first steps in max. with "soft shaping"

It had to be done. For some reason terrain editing is especially appealing to me.
