Introduction

18:26, August 28th, 1989:

“Sure gets dark here quickly.”

The Pacific Ocean, which only moments ago was raging like an unstoppable grey entity, with only few orange rays of the descending sun breaching the intimidating mass of dark clouds, was now completely devoured by the tropical darkness. Now there was nothing but the roar of the helicopter approaching its destination: Isla Sorna.

There were four people sitting in the glowing red light of the helicopter’s cabin, all dressed in black and grey uniforms, their faces covered by commando masks. Not one word was spoken, for everyone had retreated into the bastions of their minds, preparing themselves for the mission ahead. Just hours ago the members of the team were abruptly summoned for an urgent mission. Only at the helipad of BioSyn HQ were they handed hastily assembled memos concerning the mission and its goal.

For years BioSyn’s interest in InGen’s doings had been highly suspicious, especially considering the utmost secrecy revolving around every document stored in the gross file concerning their beloved rivals. There were vivid rumours circulating about; stories about various scientifical breakthroughs one more miraclous than the previous one —the only thing all these rumours had in common was that in right hands they were all worth alot of money. The uncanny team of industrial espionage spys trained in several forms of both armed and unarmed combat weren’t aware of any of these rumours. All they were told was to gather any research information they came across and get off the island, no questions asked. The mercenaries didn’t mind, though. All they cared about was the hefty pay-check BioSyn offered the team upfront —double the price of the team’s usual services.

One of the mercenaries, a slender, yet still robust woman in her mid-twenties was going over the memo for the fifth time. There was something about the whole mission that didn’t feel quite right. She had infiltrated industrial sites just like the ones depicted in the pictures before—with the slight difference of the previous targets not being surrounded by high-voltage electric fences. She understood InGen stood for International Genetic Technologies, and the memo vaguely described some of the goals as retrieving various forms of data including blueprints, journals, files and lines of computer code. What kind of scientific research regarding genes of all things would require such high-profile security measurements? It didn’t add up, even though images of spliced humans and clones did cross her mind for a brief moment. What was BioSyn trying to keep in the dark from them?

She didn’t have much time to think about the subject before being startled by the crackling voice of the loudspeaker: “Isla Sorna in sight, prepare to jump in sixty seconds.” Suddenly all four mercenaries were busy checking their parachutes, grabbing ammunition and inspecting their firearms. The lady loaded her 9mm Glock and holstered it just as the cabin door slid open and an extremely tall and muscular man with a huge machine gun flung over his left shoulder stood up, started the timer on his watch and started the countdown.

For closer to ten years now I've been juggling various ideas and ways how the first Dino Crisis for Playstation One would've worked if it took place in the world of Jurassic Park. Y'kno, combining the creepy atmospheres and locations of Dino Crisis with the more scientifically plausible and not-completely-bonkers backstory of Jurassic Park, especially with Trespasser's "expanded" timeline has always appealed to me greatly. That's why I decided to write this little fan-fiction loosely based on Dino Crisis' setting.

I'll be posting the story in short chapters like this as I write it further. This is my first attempt at writing a story like this (and it's also been awhile since the last time I've been toying around with anything JP related), so I'm kinda excited to see how this'll work out! All comments, feedback and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for reading my little headcanon scribblings! See you soon with the next chapter!

I liked the opening, seems like it'll be a fast paced and evolving story. Keep going.
