Hilwo's playthrough of the beta

Post by Hilwo »

Well, here's my report on my playthrough of the Trespasser beta! I will just
post some listing for each level of what I liked and of course some stuff I was
dissapointed about or things I missed. Most comments will probably be
about Burroughs, Pine Valley and the Lab. I have some stuff I want to mention
on the Jungle Road and Industrial Jungle levels, but I don't have much to say
on the Ascent levels. Then again, they were never really my favorite levels.
Well, here goes!

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

BEACH -> LIKES

- Anne's shirt and tattoo, like them much better than in retail. Goes for all levels

- Plane wheel, more detail is always good. In the retail there is something
floating in the water, is this also a piece of the plane, or not?

- I like the look of the scafholding (spelling?) at the concrete foundations of the
hotel.

- Nice to see the cut trash can. I was hoping to especially see this in the Lab
level, so I'll get back on that.

- The crate with lid on the mercedes. In general, I'll probably like seeing any-
thing that was cut from the retail version.

- Like how there's only one way past the Brachs now, makes it a bit harder.

- They should have left that fallen tree near the bridge to make that
impossible jump easier. I remember playing the beach for the very first time
(unpatched) and trying to make that jump over and over. Didn't know I could
shoot myself back then or I would have!

BEACH -> MISSED

- Can't think of any.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

JUNGLE ROAD -> LIKES

- The rex tooth! Well a dino tooth anyway, which was supposed to be
a very powerful melee weapon. Very nice to see it's still in the beta,
as is a jawbone a bit further away.

- Hunter's jeep with the doors "removed" looks better, more trashed.

Edit: - Forgot the horseshoe game! Remember seeing it in some old
images and in the level's basement. Nice to see it in-game in the beta.

- The "HOT" poster in the toolshack. Just kidding on this one, or
am I? (sucker for redheads)

- The terrain that starts at the phone/monorail looks very nice.
Especially a bit up ahead, where it's mossy as well. Or at least,
green, not sure what it is.

- Hidden Valley access, even though it's pretty empty. I just like
getting to play through this area, this second path, without having to
cheat.

JUNGLE ROAD -> MISSED

- No P45 love. I guess it was already cut at the time of this build.

- I was hoping there would be some cut stuff inside the plantation
house, then again I don't know if there was any.

- Cathy's beach it not really a con for me but I wanted to comment
on it anyway. I was just hoping it would be a bit more detailed but
it seems the hadn't gotten around to work on it yet.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

INDUSTRIAL JUNGLE -> LIKES

- The terrain looks very nice.

- More bikes, I think there's just 1 in the entire retail version?

- I think the jeep near gravel hill looks more detailed? The one
with the "roof" and the mounted gun on top? Looks very nice!

- The first aid box inside the smuggler's plane, we had seen it
recently in an uncovered video file. Nice detail.

INDUSTRIAL JUNGLE -> MISSED

- Can't think of any, though I would have hoped for even more
detail on the smuggler's plane; the drug bundles. There are
airplane crates labeled "bogota" in the level's basement.
Suppose these were meant to be in/around the plane?

Edit: forgot to mention the foilage/plants, I believe they're
different and there's more of it but I'm not sure.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

That's all for now, InGen Town is next. Just one last note:
Whoever made the doors in Burroughs oughtta be horse-whipped!

Just wait till you see what tatu found...

Nah, I've looked at it, same detail. Position is totally different..
- The first aid box inside the smuggler's plane, we had seen it

Dunno about an uncovered video :yum: but we knew of that from the Mystery Models, yesh. Nice to see it there.

!!! Yeah as Sam went and found out, the doors do not yet have ANY subobjecting, so they are too thick.. (also from the fact that physics act larger than the physics volume is actually shown to be, perhaps to keep things from intersecting in the penalty physics method they employed)

Not only are those doors too thick but their bounding boxes extend about 2-3 feet below ground :P

Guess I'll take another look at the plantation house then, just to be sure.
Don't want to be spoiled :) And the first-aid box in the plane, thought I saw
it in the vivo video? Not sure but I'm positive I saw it somewhere, with
textures. I know because I remember and it's the first thing I looked for
when I entered the plane.

The Plantation House thing is something only found within the levels files and not when playing the game :P

The first-aid box is in the plane in Trespasser Legacy :)

Yep lol, I set up the Smuggler's plane from the Mystery Models for JPDS1 (it's no longer going to be in there though, I'm pretty sure), including the first aid box, and when Nem had me test and help him with TL1, I immediately jumped at the chance to give it to him.

Guess it's about the plantation house being a seperate level once?

Nice, didn't remember seeing the first aid kit in Legacy, but I still saw it somewhere else first :p

By the way, is there anyone else who managed to play the whole beta with the beta engine and without any cheats? And that includes the ascent 2 with the huge mountain too! :)
With Trespasser, you can!

The PH discovery has to do with a map texture that was discovered. Check out the threads on the subject.

I don't think so. ;) Ves has told me how he dragged crates around in unexpected ways to make certain paths in AS2 crossable. I think he deserves a medal, folks!

Yeah, caught a glimpse of that topic ;)

InGen Town

Again, in general I like to see just about any cut content in-game in
the beta version of Trespasser. And thus, save for Pine Valley, the InGen
Town level was the biggest treat for me on my playthrough. It's possible
I name some stuff that actually *is* in the retail, but it's been a while for
me since I last played. That, and I've not yet been able to install both the
retail and the beta at the same time (to compare), if that's even possible.

= = = = = = = = = = Hammond's house = = = = = = = = = =

* The star map / white keycard puzzle makes more sense to me now
that it's hidden under a rock instead of just out in the open. Thumb's up!

* Don't remember seeing that fusebox in the house. Would have been
nice to be able to power up the house, guess it was meant for a puzzle?
Though when I tried one of the buttons, I got sent to the "cornfield", which
would also happen at times when picking up weapons in this level.

* Really like the island model in Hammond's office, nice touch. Definitely
prefer it over the map on the wall in the retail.

= = = = = = = = = = Wu's house = = = = = = = = = =

* Nice to see the hockey stick in-game, though I first saw it at the
barracks.

* What a nice, big, comfy chair! Fits perfectly with a television screen
like that. Though it looks more like a Hammond chair to me. Still,
nice model!

* Good to see the stair rail is not invisible in the beta. And I think the
bathroom is also a bit more detailed? Nice to see a bed, but I'll get
back to that with the bungalows.

= = = = = = = = = = Other interior = = = = = = = = = =

* It was great to see all the bungalows a bit less stripped, as they
are virtually empty in the retail. The bureaus, beds, gun cabinets
and the book shelf (in the church) add a lot more detail. I remember
seeing the gun cabinets in old concept art so that was a nice
surprise! The Jurassic Park banner and island map in the trailers
was nice too, wonder why they cut it.

= = = = = = = = = = Gas station = = = = = = = = = =

* I remember someone finding out that the lift was actually there
but under the terrain? Nice to see it in-game, along with its
controls. Has anyone gotten it to work? In my game it did
sómething, but not a whole lot. Don't remember those barrels
either

* Is that a new trashcan right outside?

= = = = = = = = = = Ops Centre = = = = = = = = = =

* Don't have much to say on the Ops centre, other than being
a little dissapointed with its contents. I was hoping there would
at least be a desk inside but I guess they hadn't worked on it
yet.

= = = = = = = = = = New Para = = = = = = = = = =

* When I left Burroughs I noticed what appeared to be the Para
heading in my direction. But it didn't look quite right, as if it was
missing textures. As it got closer and walked right passed me
my jaw dropped open! No brown Raptors but wow, what a surprise!
Don't remember ever seeing one of these in concept art or
reviews.

= = = = = = = = = = Dam area = = = = = = = = = =

* I was hoping for some differences from the retail at this area,
but I think it was virtually the same.

Well that wraps up the InGen Town level! I had hoped for
more concerning the Ops centre and Dam area but damn,
all of the stuff mentioned above more than made up for that.
This level has been a blast to play through. Onto Pine Valley!

The fusebox in Hammond's House was one of the mystery models. Originally it was believed to be from PV. I'd bet you had to change some fuses before being able to use the light up map.

Now I remember where I saw the first aid kit in the plane, it was in that German video found a year or two ago.
