JPO Demo Preview Thread Update Feb 17 - Info Update (text)

Post by hppav »

The JPO Demo is well on it's way! It will hopefully drop in the next month or so (Sooner if I keep up the pace ) 90% of what you see in the following shots was made over this past night. So here we go:

Hardware Mode:
Image

Software Mode:
Image

NOTES:
1. Foliage work is nowhere near done. There will be a lot more trees and vegetation by release. This preview is more to show the terrain textures I have created for JPO with the transition textures also created as well as to show some of my terrain work. Just remember that the northern part of the island is a forest while the rest of the island is tropical ;)

2. The first level of JPO will be The Beach (jpo~be). This level will be the basis of the demo. It will be in a beta state and will be used for feedback on how to improve JPO as a whole.

3. The Demo will use the standard Anne mesh since the Jill mesh is not ready yet.

4. The Demo will be standalone and include its own engine (Complete with a prototype of my new JPO menu and a simple JPO intro - simple compared to what I have planned for the final release).

5. The VC area is not in this demo nor will it be in the final level. This level will be rather huge on its own, especially compared to standard Tres levels.

6. RexHunter99 has agreed to fix the Mipmap error created by GeomAdd that makes these textures mipmap not so good.

Thanks. The base leafy texture doesn't look too good on its own (as you can see in the top shot) but spice it up with the transition textures and it looks really great. The cliff walls look really nice with these textures blending everything together.

I see nothing wrong with the leafy texture, I like it. Although, if you have the patience to do so, transition textures work out extremely well.

Yeah they are well worth it. Makes everything look better.

The transition textures blend this all together to make this terrain look outstanding.

Here I did some more foliage work on the forest road. Trees and the transition textures bring everything together a lot better.

Overall it's looking pretty good, Sam. 8) Though, I can't tell if that white/orange/black stuff is supposed to be the leaves you mention  I might be able to help you make that same texture look a lot better (and yes, Rex fixing the ugliness of mipmaps will work its own wonders in that regard, too), not only with adjustments to the image but to the size-on-terrain (Tres terrain textures can get really garbled up if not sized just right). The rock texture I can see, though, looks pretty good, if I'm seeing it right. The blacktop road also looks great. Actually that blacktop is pretty sweet.. I still think the dirt roads are a bit bright, but we've already discussed that kind of Kawai dirt :P Perhaps it should be a bit darked in the center of the "treads", to show that it was run over/compacted a lot, instead of just the normal dirt you see elsewhere.

As for the foliage, I might suggest trying to "take the snow off" of the pines in Enigma's latest release, if yee can figure out how.. They are great models, though not enough to give decent variation on their own IMO.

Here be an update on the foliaging:

Image

The level is a large open forest pretty much with a few facilities throughout the area. The trees are pretty much done, what's left are the ferns, sticks, rocks, boulders, etc. Beyond that much of what is left to do is to model the facilities (They aren't as large or complex as the VC so they won't take that long to model) and finish the shoreline terrain and create the ocean. Oh and the Perimeter Fence of course ;) Can't forget that fixture can we :P
