Bone rigs in Max...

Don't have Max atm, but years ago I tried manipulating a Tres dino model in Max using the bones it came with. Max would always crash.. maybe even just when I tried to select the bones. I feel like others here have gotten it to work - any word on how or what one might try to fix this issue?

I should take a look at it in MAX 2009 (or was it MAX 9?)...

EDIT: well, according to this article in the Autodesk Knowledge Network, those options should be there
