TheIdiot Releases Stuff

Post by TheIdiot »

I figured I'd make myself a release thread for whatever useless junk I spam the community with. :P All the cool kids are doing it! Only random stuff will be posted here - all RTJP content as well as other larger projects will remain in their respective section. Feel free to use anything here in your own works! :) I've put everything under spoilers to declutter the page somewhat, so click "Show" to get the description and link.

Hi-Res Texture Project (obsolete)
Spoiler: show
This is my attempt to improve the textures for Tres using the new CE engine. Not everything is complete, but it gives several objects new life, especially in the Beach level.

Operation Lizard Tooth
Spoiler: show
So we all have to start somewhere, right? Well, here's my beginning. In 2008, I first played Trespasser, and by 2009, I knew a fair amount about the game, as well as the universe it resides in, though it seems I knew nothing about the beta version as you will read. Something that bugged me was that we never got to see what lies beyond the mountains to the east of the town, as well as the northern coast up to Mount Watson. I didn't know about The Plains or really even much of the geography. So began the creation of my first mod project ever - Operation Lizard Tooth, the granddaddy of RTJP. 8)

If my memory serves me right, the premise of this mod was that you were a CIA agent - named Diana I-can't-remember-her-last-name-but-it's-not-Forman - patrolling the skies of Isla Sorna when a pteranodon takes you down, crashing into a mountainside. Your goal was then to make your way north from the mountain at the center of the Beach level to the shore just next to the location of The Ascent Part II. I can't remember exactly the order or name of the levels, but I remember there being either six or seven of them. The only one I ever worked on was Cliffs, and naturally I encountered a billion newbie problems that ultimately doomed the fate of the project, prompting me to start on something even more ambitious - Isla Nublar.
The game began with the player descending from the wreckage of her helicopter, fighting her way down the side of the mountain past some hungry Raptors, passing through a cavern and going over a waterfall into a misty valley. The valley would take the player along a river, through a swamp and to the shore. After some cliff jumping, the player would come to the waterfront / harbor from JP3, here encountering the game's recurring antagonist - a heavily scarred allosaurus. This creature would pursue the player through the next level, disappearing again until the last level, which would have followed the streambed where Dieter Stark was killed by the compies, ultimately leading to a final battle with the allosaurus. Once this was over, it would run into a rockslide, crushing itself and opening the exit to the JP3 rescue beach, where the player would start a small boat and escape.

Here is the one file I found that remains of it, the Cliffs level. It's barely complete, and the Raptor at the start crashes the game, so it's not really playable. This was my very first level - as such, it isn't anything special, and my understanding of the game was extremely meager, but I figure it's probably better up here than sitting on my old computer rotting for eternity. :P

Lara Croft Anne (just a picture)
Spoiler: show
Here's a rather odd looking edit I did a long time ago of a picture I found of Lara Croft, changing her into Anne. This was intended for the title screen of my Spino Escape level (part of my Trespasser remake, which I sadly no longer have).

Young JPDS Megaraptor skin
Spoiler: show
Another oldie, here's a skin of the JPOG Raptor, made to look like a juvenile JPDS megaraptor. This was also part of Operation Lizard Tooth and later intended for my Trespasser level remake. It's highly likely to have some severe seam issues.

Old RTJP Models and Textures
Spoiler: show
A folder of old RTJP stuff, all of which is no longer in use, from the 2013 and 2015 versions. Contains a lot of terrain textures from previous versions, as well as some old models that I have no use for, including a film-accurate Tres Stego skin, a somewhat inaccurate 6-foot fence model, and a couple of unfinished buildings, among others.

JPOG Stuff
Spoiler: show
Note that this is not ALL of the JPOG models, but contains a lot of them. There is plenty of misc stuff that will likely be of use one way or another. None of these have physics at the moment, but feel free to make your own physics and T-scripts for these models. There is also a lack of opacity mapping, so you'll have to edit those in yourself as well if you plan on using any of the plants.

HD JP3 Tyrannosaurus Skin
Spoiler: show
A new tyrannosaurus skin based on the JP3 one, originally made for testing out dinosaurs in the MegaJungle environment. Ready for importing straight through GeomAdd. Also includes 512x textures and bumpmaps for CE. Has a couple of minor seams around the neck, arms and tail, but is otherwise complete. Top image is without bumpmaps, HD textures, and ReShade, bottom is with.

JPDS-style HUD for CE
Spoiler: show
Here's a tweak I made for the default CE HUD styled after the JPDS HUD. You can play it with any level if you want, although it was designed for JPDS to replace the non-functional HUD. It's not an exact replica of the original since I couldn't figure out how to extend the background, but it works well enough for now. Note that it doesn't show the reserve ammo, only the ammo you have in the gun in your hand. The HUD is also vaguely transparent to keep it from being distracting.

To run this, create a folder called "Scripts" in your main Tres directory (wherever your data folder is located), or in a CE mod sub-directory, and extract all of the files there. It will work from there on flawlessly. If you install it to the main directory, it will also work with any CE-loaded mods you use, but will be overridden by mod-specific HUDs.

Enjoy!

Trespasser Weapon Sound Overhaul
Spoiler: show
This is a small mod I did a long time ago for a user who wanted to replace the weapon sounds with his own selection. I never released the file publically, and the user seems to have disappered since (if you're the one reading this, feel free to let me know who you are!), so I've decided to put the file up for download. It works as an additive Effects .TPA file which you can attach to your mod in order to replace most of the gun sounds with these excellent new ones!

Spoiler: show
My recreation of the SNES JP game. The entire map is present in a mostly completed form, though the buildings are only rough models and you can't climb the mountains. You can explore everything, though there isn't really much to do. I would be absolutely thrilled to see someone finish this one day.

"HorrorMod"
Spoiler: show
This is a somewhat rough layout for a level I'd intended to make in the style of Left 4 Dead or possibly Resident Evil 2. Essentially you would have been a woman who wakes up in her house in the middle of the night to a dinosaur invasion of her town. You would have had to escape through the city, solving some puzzles and fighting various dinosaurs, in order to reach the hospital and escape via helicopter. Some parts of the level would have been focused more on horror, with scripted scares and such, whereas others would have been action-oriented. I never got past this rough layout, especially after I realized things were slightly too cramped. The level never recieved a full name, and unfortunately the level files are still named "startlev".

Shadowed Lands
Spoiler: show
A smaller level I'd planned on making in the vein of the Turok games - the level name is a reference to one of the stages in Turok: Evolution. This level would have focused on a series of central hubs which you would have to keep returning to after completing each successive area and retrieving the items you needed to proceed. Some of the areas I'd roughed out and planned on creating were a Mayan ruin maze, a swamp, a small arena where a pack of Raptors would attack, and a large lagoon where some animated plesiosaurs would have provided something more original. Ultimately the goal was to reach the highest point of the map and fly away on the back of a waiting pteranodon.

Jurassic Prey
Spoiler: show
Not much to see here. This was a test of some modular building elements that I'd quickly put together. Can't remember much about this level other than the idea that this would also have a "horror" theme to it, with the player having to solve puzzles and find keys to escape the facility.

AI Test
Spoiler: show
A simple test level I've used to test a number of AI values. Features a lot of dinosaurs and some potentially interesting behaviour, including a test of the "pack leader" system that was meant for RTJP.

TLW Arcade Carnotaurus skin
Spoiler: show
I've had this guy lying around forever and decided he probably wasn't going to be used anywhere, so here's...the TLW arcade game carnotaurus. In skin-format, at least...his model is totally screwed-up (he turns into an octopus when he wakes up, basically). You need the carnotaurus model from the "Xmas Gift" level for this.

Update: as per Draco's request, a very early, very basic heightmap of the novel's Isla Nublar. Check the bottom of the first post!

It's almost 4 AM here, but I also plan on releasing a few more things tomorrow - namely, a number of now obsolete terrain textures from previous incarnations of RTJP, and possibly some other outdated models. Stay tuned!

Interesting... Seems you've warped the novel map to fit a film-ish-shaped terrain. Nice touch but not my base preference. Cool heightmap, anyway. :)

Well, there isn't really an official map of the novel's Isla Nublar, so I picked the one I thought was the most accurate judging by the locations described in the novel. There was another one that used to be on JPL and it was literally just the movie's Nublar map stretched to the dimensions of the novel, with different locations added. The one I picked looked different enough to me to be acceptable.

EDIT: The old RTJP stuff has been uploaded, check the top!

Hmmm. The novel itself comes with a large map of Nublar at the front. It is what I compared your version to and that which I would consider to be most novel-canon.

Interesting, the version of the novel that I have does not come with a map. This map is definitely inaccurate in several ways - for one, it's missing Les Gigantes restaraunt. Also, if the dilophosaurs are in Carnivore Country (as can be assumed), then it would have to come before Triceratops Country, as they encounter the dilos before the trikes. We also know that Hammond's bungalow is on a hill above a ravine through which the river runs, which isn't present in this version of the map. The river in this map doesn't really even make sense, as it just kind of end in the waterfall pool. And where's the aviary? The book also says that the lake is long and thin, whereas this one is more just round. To me, the map you've provided is way too inaccurate to be wholly canon. I remember reading somewhere that it was designed by a third-party after the novel was released, and was then included in later editions. The original book did not come with a map. I know there are other editions of the novel - I believe I have the first edition, as some of the later ones made changes, like replacing microceratops with callavosaurus and apatosaurus with camarasaurus.

Do you have a date on the release of the foliage level you made, just with the physics attached?

Umm actually I could probably release that quite soon. Many of those objects now have physics in the RTJP~Helipad level, it's just a matter of porting them over and then doing the rest of the plants. I don't think the next release will have physics for the rocks as those will take much longer than the trees, but hopefully all of the plants should be done. Plus all of the new evergreen trees will be included. :)
