Okay, so I was looking through the design documents and the voice over scripts for both Anne and John Hammond are in there as well as where they were initially planned to go in game. Anyone else looked at these? I haven't really saw any disussion regarding the VO scripts which is why I'm asking. We basically have a better idea of what voice over was supposed to go where.
One example:
HAMMOND105
An ex-policeman from South Africa, a sort of soldier-of-fortune character.
HAMMOND106
Known as "The Maharajah" to his fellows, highly skilled but only works alone. He was meant to radio for pickup from the comm station.
I never looked at the design documents much, I'm more concerned with what came out rather than the development. But any discussion on this would certainly be interesting.
Yes, there's a lot of interesting things in there. The beach and foundation site has a lot of voice overs attributed to it. A LOT. And some areas are rather sparse with voice overs. They probably moved a lot of them around in development to try to get a better balance throughout the game.
If I remember right there's two different ideas for the location of Harold Greenwood's body (both scripts depict it differently). Hammond's script is laid out by how the line should be acted out rather than in chronological order, to make it easier for him to portray the character.
The scripts were written in 1997 so they still had their wishes how they wanted it. But during development, they changed most of it several times. Just look at the town and compare it to the walkthrough (which was written about the same time as the VO scripts), most of it didn't make it in the final.
But there is many cool things in the documents indeed. I will come back to this.
